Endometriosis

This a condition whereby the endometrium (tissue that lines the uterus) is found in other areas of the pelvic cavity such as the fallopian tubes or on the ovaries. This tissue behaves like normal endometrial tissue during the menstrual period causing pain, inflammation and can result in scar tissue forming. Fertility may be compromised by either blockage of the tubes, interference with the ovulation function or by diminishing optimal conditions for the travelling egg/oocyte. Fertility issues depend on the severity of endemetriosis; those with mild forms may conceive without any assistance but for others, surgery and IVF may be necessary to help conceive.
